Infrastructure Improvements:

This past spring/summer, we resurfaced the Woodlands Subdivision in the southeast section of Palatine Township. Roadways were surveyed for drainage concerns, milled, patched and new asphalt, surface course was placed. These roadways included Briarwood, Brookdale, Linden and Thorntree Lanes Brookdale Courts. We installed new high intensity prismatic traffic signs to provide better retro-reflectivity of sight. Additionally, street name signs were updated according to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Next year’s project will include the Howe Terrace subdivision.

In order to keep our roadways fully maintained and functional, permits are necessary for any home or driveway improvement. Permits are free of charge and easy to complete. They are simply used to document contractors and hold them accountable for any accidental damage that may occur within the roadway right of way. Open Burning:

Part of autumn that many in the Midwest have come to reminisce, is the smell of burning leaves broadcasting thru the countryside. However, burning leaves and other landscape materials may be regulated thru local municipalities, as written by the Illinois Environmental Protection agency “It depends on the local laws and ordinances as units of local governments have the authority to impose limitations on burning landscape waste including limiting the hours when such burning may occur, types of material allowed, as well as a total ban of open burning (e.g., leaf-burning ban). There is no state law or regulatory ban on leaf burning, however, local laws and ordinances govern.” Please see their website at epa.illinois.gov/topics/forms/air-permits/open-burning/index for further information. Snow and Ice Control:

If the upcoming 2016-2017 winter season is anything like the recent ones, we will be in the record books once again. Whether we receive several inches of sleet, freezing rain, graupel, snow or extreme frigid air, Palatine Township Road District is staffed and equipped to combat all the fickle weather we receive in the Chicagoland area. We have once again executed our salt contract in order to provide the Township with bulk treated road salt, anti-icing liquid and have outfitted our fleet with additional ice control measures. We continue to monitor weather conditions and apply the best technique to combat inclement weather.

Help us to keep your neighbors and other motorists safe by not disposing of snow into the street, a public sidewalk or even on the parkway across from your property. Properly pile the snow from your driveway on the downstream edge of roadway plowing operations and your drive. This will reduce the amount of snow deposited into your driveway during the following storm event. If a mailbox has been compromised by our municipal plow truck, please notify us immediately so that a temporary mailbox may be installed for continued postal service.
